Eid ul Fitr was celebrated with religious fervor and zeal all across Jammu and Kashmir today. The biggest congregation of Eid prayers was held at the historic Eidgah Srinagar where thousands of faithful offered congregational Eid prayers. Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who was suppossed to deliver the Eid sermon was once again placed put under house arrest and not allowed to offer prayers for the sixth consecutive year.Hurriyat (M) has strongly condemned the house detention of its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who was barred from leading the congregational Eid prayers at historical Eidgah in downtown city and termed it as blatant and shameless denial of his human and religious rights and duties.Hurriyat spokesman said for the last 6 years the Mirwaiz has been disallowed from leading the Eid Khutbah a tradition followed from centuries and offering congregational prayers on this most important day in terms of its religious significance for Muslims “After fasting for a month Muslims are enjoined to gather and offer congregational prayers thanking Allah for the special blessings during the holy month of Ramzan.

On this day it is mandatory for Muslims to offer Eid mamas and Not allowing the Mirwaiz to offer Eid prayers and Khutba is ridiculous . The spokesman said It is another stark evidence of our subjugation and military occupation.Meanwhile, addressing the congregation at Eidgah over phone Mirwaiz said that these restriction will not in anyway deter him or weaken his resolve towards pursuing the just cause of his people. He said he will always follow the path of his ancestors who made great sacrifices and bore tremendous hardships but never flinched from the right path . Mirwaiz said these restrictions imposed to distance the leadership and the people as the government greatly fears their interaction and wants to muzzle the collective voice of the people, instead cements the bond between the two further.Mirwaiz reiterated that there is no option for the state but to address the Kashmir issue in accordance to the aspirations of the people of Kashmir. He reiterated thay resistance leadership will continue to jointly resist anti kashmir policies of the Pdp-Bjp govt .

He urged upon both India and Pakistan to initiate a meaningful and result oriented process to resolve this issue by involving the people of Kashmir whose destiny is at stake in this long standing political dispute. Mirwaiz also strongly denounced use of force on nimazees including women by the armed forces and called it a shameless act by the authorities who did not spare imnocent people even on the auspicious day of Eid.After the Eid prayers at Eid Gah there were wide spread protests in favour of freedom and against the detention of the Mirwaiz ,Syed Ali Geelani , Yaseen Malik and other Pro freedom leaders.Mirwaiz strongly denounced the terrorist attack in the Holy city of Medina and urged upon Muslim leadership across the globe to stand united against this menace of terrorism and extremism. He said that such elements who try to carry these attacks under the name of Islam have in fact nothing to do with the religion and teachings of Islam. (KNS)
