Kozhikode (Kerala) , 20 Jun 2016

Ramadan is all about prayers, sharing food and extending relief for the poor and keeping the credentials of communal harmony alive.Throughout the days and nights of the holy month, the mosques will turn into venues of prayers and spiritual discourses. The believers, who fast the entire day, spend whatever they can in the holy month determining that Allah offers susceptible reward for every good deed.In Kerala, this time too, US based Indian Muslim Relief and Charities (IMRC) have come in aid for the underprivileged families by giving them ration packets, so that they can observe fast in the holy month of Ramadan. Besides, IMRC is all set to offer Iftars in mosques belonging to various localities at Mukkam in Kozhikode district of Kerala."Most of the people here work as daily wagers and in Ramadan rising temperature forces us to stay indoors leading to shortage of food. The relief by IMRC has come as an help for hundreds of families, residing here," says Abdulla Ahmed from Kodiyathoor, Khozikode. This year, ahead of Ramadan, IMRC distributed 600 Ramadan ration packets among poor Muslim families in order to help them to meet their daily requirements during the holy month. According to Kozhikode IMRC Volunteer, Amal Abdulla, the kits were distributed to 600 families residing at Mukkam, Koodaranji, Kodiyathur, Pathanapuram, Chennamangaloor, Anayamkunnu and Manassery. The beneficiaries were selected by the mosque committees of the respective areas.According to M Abdul Latheef, a beneficiary, the underprivileged persons in these areas were waiting for such helps. "This year too, IMRC has come in to support us with grains and we are very thankful to them for the things they have been doing for us," he said.Besides, IMRC will also distribute Iftar kits in mosques in these areas. Last year, according to Abdulla, the organization had spent more than one lakh rupees towards the expenses of Iftar for poor’s, organised by various mosques at Mukkam, Chennamangaloor, Manassery and Pathanapuram.Importantly, each Ramadan US-based Indian Muslim Relief & Charities (IMRC) conducts a ‘Ramadan Feeding Program’ in which the poor and needy are given food in grains  package which includes items such as wheat flour, lentils, oil, salt, chilli, other more and hot meals. Last year the ‘Ramadan Feeding Program ’was conducted in 19 states and this year it has been extended to 22 states.
