11 killed in landslides in Assam

At least 11 people, including five of a family, were killed due to landslides triggered by incessant rains in Hailakandi and Karimganj districts in Assam's Barak Valley on Wednesday.The Assam Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said while six people were killed in Hailakandi, five people were killed in Karimganj district.Those killed in Hailakandi included five of a family, a couple and their two sons and a daughter, police said.According to the ASDMA three districts, Hailakandi, Karimganj and Dima Hasao, have been affected badly due to landslides triggered by incessant rains.Meanwhile, the ASDMA warned of floods in Sonitpur, Bishwanath, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Tinsukia and in parts of Udalguri districts in the days to come."The meteorological department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places over Tawang, East Kameng, West Kameng, Kurung Kumey, Pamum Pare, Lower Subansiri, Anjaw, Lower and Upper Dibang valley district of Arunachal Pradesh in next 48 hours," said the ASDMA in a statement.
