‘India using dialogue strategy for its benefit: Geelani tells Basit

Pakistani High Commissioner Abdul Basit visited senior separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani in Delhi on Tuesday.Spokesperson and close aide of Syed Ali Geelani, Ayaz Akbar told CNS that Pakistan High Commissioner arrived at Geelani’s temporary residence and held an hour long meeting with him. “It was a courtesy visit and Basit Sahab inquired about his health. Yes, Kashmir issue was also discussed,” he said adding that High Commissioner reiterated that Pakistan will continue to extend moral, political and diplomatic support  to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and their legitimate right of self-determination.

“Pakistan High Commissioner informed that he arrived to see him (Geelani) on the insistence of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. There was a detailed discussion on Kashmir. Geelani Sahab expressed his reservations about the ongoing dialogue between India and Pakistan and informed Abdul Basit that in the garb of dialogue India has been continuing to commit atrocities on the people of Kashmir,” Akbar informed adding that Geelani asked Pakistan to force India to stop harping that Kashmir is its integral part before the commencement of any dialogue.“During the meeting Geelani Sahab informed Abdul Basit that dialogue between two countries only benefits India. He said that India is misleading international community while at home it doesn’t softens its stand on Kashmir.” Pakistan High Commissioner assured that Pakistan will not take any stand on Gilgat Baltistan that will prove counterproductive for Kashmir issue. Pakistan Deputy High Commissioner Obaid Rehman Nizamni was also present during the interaction.

Meanwhile Hurriyat G in a statement to CNS said that Syed Ali Geelani is undergoing a detailed medical treatment in New Delhi and his health condition is now stable. “The prominent chest specialist Dr. Vikram Sarabhai had conducted a detailed check-up of Geelani Sahab at Medanta Hospital at Gurgaon (Haryana) and had suggested some additional medicines. PFT and other medical examinations have been conducted so far and some other important tests are undergoing. Personal Secretary to Geelani Sahab Peer Saifullah and his son Naseem Geelani are presently staying in New Delhi to take care of him there and according to them Geelani Sahab is quite stable now and he is feeling better due to the change in the climate,” Hurriyat G spokesperson Ayaz Akbar said.
