Police to approach Interpol for Tripura CM's fake FB account

The Tripura Police is likely to approach Interpol to probe the fake Facebook account opened in the name of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, an official said here on Saturday.This is the second time in last week the state police have registered a case after a similar misdeed in October 2014."Police officials immediately launched a probe into the opening of a fake Facebook account in the name of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in October 2014. Last week, we came to know that the matter has to be referred to Interpol office in California," a senior police official told IANS on condition of anonymity."The state law department would submit a proposal in this regard before the cabinet and after the cabinet approval, the matter would be referred to the union home ministry which would forward the case to Interpol," the official added.

He said the police have taken suo motu cases after learning that a fake Facebook account was opened in October 2014 in the name of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar."The latest attempt to open a fake Facebook account in the name of chief minister last week would also be clubbed with the first one. The fake accounts were operated from abroad," the official said, adding cases were registered with the West Kotowali police station here.Meanwhile, Director General of Police K. Nagraj said: "The Tripura Police is developing a full-fledged wing of cyber crime. We believe that we would soon get a breakthrough into the offence."Police found many postings were made in the bogus Facebook accounts.When contacted, Sarkar told reporters he had neither any mail ID or Facebook account nor has he given permission to anyone to open mail ID or Facebook account.
