Following rampant complaints by people against chemists in the Valley of cheating, the Drug and Food Control organization has directed all chemists not to give any drug without the prescription of registered medical practitioner and also maintain prescription register. An official of the DFCO, who wished anonymity, told KNS that recently a patient admitted in LD hospital was given wrong medicine by a chemist located outside LD Hospital.“The attendant of the patient was asked by the doctors to get an injection for gastric acidity, but the chemist (G R Pharmacy) gave him injection for hypertension and, shockingly, kept the doctor’s prescription with him,” the official told KNS, adding, the nurse without seeing the prescription injected the drug to the patient.

“After complaining to the concerned authorities, Rajbagh police registered FIR under Section 420 against the chemist and the DFCO seized his shop,” the official said.Taking note of the complaint, the Deputy Controller DFCO formed teams which conducted 245 extensive inspection drives across the valley.“53 licenses of different violators were suspended and four drug to drug stores were served notices for violating the Act,” an official statement of the DFCO said. The organistaion directed the chemists not to dispense any drug without the prescription of Registered Medical Practitioner and maintain Prescription register. The statement appealed the people to demand cash memos at the time of purchase of medicines from chemists. It also opened helpline numbers, 0194-2495191, 0194-2490038, for people to register any complaint at the office of Deputy Controller’s office.
