Police Wednesday charged the protesting female teachers with canes and forced them to vacate the premises of Directorate of School Education. Eyewitnesses told CNS that scores of female teachers appointed under Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) central scheme who were staging a protest in favour of their regularization in the premises of Directorate of School Education faced the wrath of police when after charging them with lathis they were bundled into police vehicles and lodged into police station Kothi Bagh.President KGBV Forum Mymona Khan told CNS that various female teachers were injured in police action whom she identified as Shah Khalida, Shazia Banoo, Shahzada, Asmat Banoo and Sumaira Akhtar. “We had started our indefinite day and night protest from Tuesday morning. On Wednesday a police party from Kothi Bagh police station arrived in Directorate of School Education premises and forced us to vacate the ground. When we refused, they resorted to baton charge and bundled us into police vehicles,” she said.

Pertinently, KGBV female teachers have been protesting in favour of their regularization. They had deferred the strike in May this year after the government assured them that the regularization orders of KGBV teachers would be issued within four weeks. “We decided to stage protests again after government did not fulfill its promise. We have sought permission from the district administration and now we will stage an indefinite sit-in at Press Enclave Srinagar,” Mymoona Khan said. (CNS)
