Unidentified gunmen Friday carried out a series of grenade attacks in summer capital city, targeting yet again the telecom providers, and injuring one person, with Director General of Police K Rajendara saying that the culprits would be arrested soon as police has found similarities between attacks of today with the Pattan attack happened last month.“I visited the spots and to Shaheedgunj police station and also police Control Room and discussed the issue with my officials,” he said talking to KNS over phone.The DGP added a special meeting was called in which necessary directions were passed to identify the culprits.He said the police are working on all angels and said as per the preliminary investigation today’s attacks are similar to that in Pattan last month when mobile installation was attacked there.
The police chief asked people not to panic. “There is no need to panic. These incidents will not affect the tourism and yatra season in anyway,” he said.Meanwhile, as per police the first attack Police happened when two unidentified youth entered the office of Aircel at Karan Nagar at around 11.30 am and asked the staffers to leave. “The militants then hurled a grenade inside the premises and fled from the place,” a police official said.In the similar fashion, he said the second attack was carried out on Vodafone showroom only few meters away.
“Fortunately, no one was injured in these two attacks,” police said, who issued alert for the assailants.A few hours later, another attack was carried out in Shaheedgunj area of the city with a grenade being hurled at a BSNL tower, resulting in injuries to a migrant labourer.The attack on the BSNL tower at 3 pm took place less than a kilometre away from the scene of the earlier two incidents.The labourer Mohammad Bhai, working in the neighbouring house, sustained splinter injuries in the blast, a police officer said. He was admitted to SMHS hospital for treatment.Friday's attacks on mobile telecommunication facilities in Kashmir came after a lull of nearly two months.About two months back, militants had targeted mobile telecommunication facilities in north Kashmir Sopore town by carrying out grenade attacks and later killing two persons associated with the telecom trade.
