Sharjah Census 2015 give away Iftar meals to motorists

Sharjah Census 2015 brought the spirit of Ramadan to the streets recently by distributing Iftar meals to motorists on Al Falah Camp Roundabout in Muwaileh. The Department of Statistics and Community Development (DSCD), who are overseeing the Sharjah Census 2015, said the initiative, called Iftar on the Road, had a secondary aim to educate people about the census which is due to begin in October.Iftar meals were distributed to passing vehicles under the supervision of Sharjah Police and a team of volunteers helped to extend greetings on the holy month of Ramadan, and distribute brochures about the Sharjah Census 2015.  The Media Committee for the Sharjah Census 2015 organized the event, with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of DSCD, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Director of DSCD, and other staff members taking part.

The Sharjah Census 2015 is a national project serving the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE. The purpose of the census is to help the Government of Sharjah to meet the needs of everyone living and working in the Emirate with a special focus on the most needy and vulnerable. It aims to provide the essential information needed to raise the standards of quality, efficiency and transparency of services and facilities for everyone.During the distribution, the volunteers encouraged motorists to participate in the census and explained its aim to bring prosperity and success to everyone in the Emirate, and improve the quality of life in Sharjah and the UAE.

The motorists, residents, employees and workers expressed their delight at the Ramadan initiative, saying it reflected the values of giving and kindness as well as the desire to strengthen community spirit.In February, His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, issued an Emiri decree No.7 of 2015 on conducting a general census of the population, infrastructure, housing and commercial establishments in Sharjah. The census, based on UN best practices, will help set ambitious goals for the social, economic, and cultural development of the country.
