Mirwaiz, Geelani, Malik call for shutdown in Srinagar tomorrow against Jamia Masjid ‘desecration’

Condemning the police ‘assault’ on worshippers, the three top pro-freedom leaders on Friday called for a shutdown in Srinagar district tomorrow against the alleged desecration of Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta area of Old City.While calling for the shutdown, the chairman of his Hurriyat faction and Valley’s Chief priest, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq termed the “action of government forces as an act of state terrorism.”In a statement issued to GNS, he said: “Police violated the basic norms of morality by entering Jamia Masjid, he said that this action of forces has desecrated the sanctity of the mosque and has caused great distress and suffering for the devotees.”Mirwaiz, who delivers Friday sermons at Jamia Masjid, said that it was highly unfortunate that on every Friday, the administration deploys hundreds of police and CRPF men outside Jamia Masjid which becomes the major cause of turning the situation bad and hostile. The Mirwaiz also condemned the alleged assault on journalists by police. “Such acts of violation of the sanctity are highly provocative for the Muslims,” he added.Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani also condemned the alleged desecration of Jamia Masjid and “thrashing of worshippers”. He called for shutdown tomorrow in Srinagar against the “police action”.A spokesman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) told GNS that its chairman Yasin Malik have also called for a shutdown in Srinagar tomorrow against the Jamia Masjid incident.
