With every Pollywood release, the notion of ‘runaway bride’ is becoming quite prevalent in the Punjabi cinema. Though earlier the climax of Bollywood movies hasmajorly been with the entry of the hero at the ‘mandap’ until the bride flees with him;and now Heer and Hero is the third film in the last quarter that is capitalizing on the similar idea. The only difference is that the men are left fantasizing as the bride outsmarts them.A Sagar S Sharma directorial, ‘Heer and Hero’ marks the debut of Minisha Lamba in Punjabi cinema. A romantic-comedy, the film initiates with the fashion show of a spoiled brat, Geet (Manisha), who’s one and only dream is to showcase her designs in the fashion capital of the world, Paris. In quest of following her dream, she runs away from her wedding and encounters two prospective grooms Raj (Preet Bhullar) and Fatte (Arya Babbar), who start a contest of winning the girl with the third one being Bhupi (Gurpreet Ghuggi) whom Geet left amid her wedding.
The chase continues till the aspiring fashion designer flies to Paris encashing the moment and the three men are left dreaming about her. Another debutant in regional cinema, Mukul Dev has played his role with immense depth in the character of a Police inspector. Yograj Singh plays the bride’s father, who is another authoritative figure in the film.
The music has already earned accolades from the viewers with ‘Haule Haule’ and the title track, ‘Heer and Hero’ being most accepted by the music lovers. The item song ‘Lak Tunu Tunu’ featuring Hazel Keech is another catchy number. Bringing a wave of freshness, the story and screenplay of the film is done by Rajan Agarwal whilecinematographer Tapan Vyas has done an amazing job. The movie is produced by Harjeet Bhullar & Etch-B under the banner of The Theatre Army Films and H.B Productions who made a mark by handling the line production of some previous hit projects.The first half of the film is quite entertaining and will leave you craving for more while the second half may make you losing some grip.
VERDICT: The hilarious rom-com is a break from the regular Punjabi film and may be liked by most of the viewers, especially the youth.
