Indian Army Gatka team clinches nine medals in national tourney

The Indian Army Gatka team participated for the first time in  martial art national competition and excelled in by winning 9 medals during the fourth Ekonkar National Gatka cup-2015 concluded at village Seechewal in Jalandhar district.Gatka Federation of India and Ekonkar Charitable Trust Seechewal organized this two days national tournament in which Gatka team from 26 Punjab Regiment participated in different age groups and clinched one gold, four silver and bronze medals each.This annual national event was conducted as per prescribed Gatka rules of World Gatka Federation where teams from eight states and Army team fought for the medals in six different age categories.

In this event, Sepoy Kuldeep Singh from Army Gatka team led by JCO Lakhwinder Singh and Gatka coach Gurpartap Singh clinched gold medal under age group 22 years in Gatka Farri Soti (individual event). In the same group in Singal Soti (individual) Sepoy Manjeet Singh won silver.Under-25 Singal Soti (team event) Sepoy Prinjal Kumar, Sepoy Deepak Kumar and Sepoy Gurjant Singh secured their silver medals. In the same group in Farri Soti (team event) Sepoy Baljinder Singh, Sepoy Jagjit Singh and Sepoy Kulwinder Singh won their bronze medals. In U-25 Signal Soti (individual) Sepoy Malkit Singh confirmed his bronze medal. On the maiden appearance of Army team Mr Suhhir Tokas CO 26 Punjab Regiment has congratulated the Gatka players for their triumph.
