In action to control the day to day occurring road accidents & to facilitate the increasing traffic in the district, road berms at sides of link roads will be widened & strengthened by filling earth. Stating this Deputy Commissioner Sh. Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said District Development & Panchayat officer & other officers of the concerned departments have already been directed through Demi-official letter to remove illegal encroachments from the road side berms and to execute the work of earth filling on berms so that a new & improvised look could be provided to the roads. Sidhu said that in accordance with the directions of Punjab Govt. PWD is carrying out the cleaning & renovation work of roads at war footing front, in accordance with the directions of Govt. of Punjab. As such the work for earth filling at road berms will also be carried out on the same pattern. He said that it has been observed that the public has illegally occupied the road berms & they are using the berms for their personal gardening by cutting it. All it results in traffic problem & day by day increasing number of road accidents.
Sidhu said that as on now the harvesting season for rice & paddy is on full swing & there are vacant fields everywhere. As such cleaning of berms & leveling it with earth filling could be done easily. Demi-official letter is clear in the direction for widening the berms with earth filling after proper demarcation. It has also been directed to submit report regarding removal of illegal encroachments after demarcation. Deputy Commissioner appealed the road side land owners to not to occupy the road berms & also to remove it by their own, if any, so that the work for widening could be done properly and traffic problem could be handled.
