Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan today chaired a meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) to review anti-narcotics measures under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan.

Reviewing directions issued at the previous meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Drug Inspector to act with the Tehsildars concerned and the Police Department to intensify drives against the illegal sale and misuse of narcotic substances and to inspect private courier services to prevent their misuse for transporting narcotics.

The DC directed the SDMs, Tehsildars and Excise Department to eradicate cannabis from their jurisdictions, maintain vigil against illegal poppy and cannabis cultivation and act immediately wherever it is detected. He called for focussed analysis of the factors leading youth towards substance abuse and strict surveillance in vulnerable areas.

Reviewing the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) at District Hospital Ramban, he directed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure proper functioning of the IPD facility and provide quality medical care, counselling and follow-up support for rehabilitation and prevention of relapse.

Reviewing the progress of departments under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Campaign, the DC directed time-bound implementation of scheduled activities and asked the Assistant Commissioner (Development) to strengthen Panchayat-Level Monitoring Committees and Mahila Samitis across the district.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the District Social Welfare Officer, Chief Education Officer and other officers concerned to intensify IEC campaigns in government and private educational institutions, instructed the Excise Department to prepare a comprehensive awareness plan focussing on youth and asked the Assistant Commissioner (Development) and Tehsildars to activate youth clubs for awareness and community mobilisation.

SSP Ramban Arun Gupta suggested several measures to make society drug-free and stressed close coordination among departments, educational institutions, community organisations and civil society.Among those present were Additional Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak, Chief Medical Officer Dr Kamal Zadu, the Chief Education Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, Tehsildars, Drug Control Officer and officers from various enforcement and line departments. SDMs and other officers concerned joined virtually.
