Haryana Public Health Engineering and Public Works Minister, Sh. Ranbir Gangwa on Tuesday said that strengthening the state's drinking water, sewerage and sanitation infrastructure remains one of the government's highest priorities. To achieve this objective, 712 new water supply, sewerage and stormwater drainage projects, with a total estimated cost of Rs 2,534.39 crore, have been approved for the financial year 2026-27.
He said the approved projects will significantly accelerate the development of water supply, sewerage and stormwater drainage infrastructure across different parts of Haryana, with the primary objective of providing better civic amenities to the people. Sh. Ranbir Gangwa said the double-engine government, under the leadership of Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi and Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini, is working at a rapid pace to modernise water supply, sewerage and sanitation facilities across the state.
He said the government's objective is to ensure access to safe drinking water for every household, provide an efficient sewerage network and strengthen water resource management. Upon completion, these projects will benefit residents in both urban and rural areas by substantially improving essential public services, said the Minister.
Sh. Ranbir Gangwa said that during the 59th meeting of the Haryana Water Supply and Sewerage Board (WSSB), approval was granted for the 712 projects worth Rs 2,534.39 crore for the financial year 2026-27. He further said that to strengthen drinking water infrastructure in rapidly expanding urban centres, 69 water supply projects costing Rs 603.32 crore have been approved.
These include major schemes for Bahadurgarh, Dharuhera, Jhajjar, Narnaul, Rewari and Kurukshetra. The Minister further said that 18 urban sewerage projects, with an estimated cost of Rs 526.49 crore, have also been sanctioned.
These projects cover Bahadurgarh, Jhajjar, Narnaul, Rewari, Kurukshetra, Jagadhri and Rohtak. In addition, two stormwater drainage projects worth Rs 19.11 crore have been approved to improve rainwater drainage systems in Ellenabad and Bawani Khera.
Highlighting the government's focus on rural infrastructure, Sh. Ranbir Gangwa said that 603 new rural water supply augmentation and improvement schemes, involving an investment of Rs 1,108.28 crore, have been approved during the current financial year 2026-27. These projects include the installation of new tubewells, construction of canal-based waterworks, augmentation of existing canal-based waterworks, establishment of new boosting stations, laying of water pipelines in newly developed areas and replacement of ageing pipelines.
He further said that 13 Mahagram sewerage projects costing Rs 203.58 crore and three Mahagram water supply projects worth Rs 71.58 crore have also been approved to expand water and sewerage infrastructure in rural areas. Major projects under this initiative include those covering Ujjina, Babain, Ramsaran Majra, Umri and a cluster of five villages under the Tikli group.
In addition, two works for strengthening drinking water supply in rural habitations have been sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 44 lakh, while two institutional strengthening projects for the Public Health Engineering Department have been approved at a cost of Rs 1.58 crore. Sh. Ranbir Gangwa said the Chief Minister has directed the department to complete all projects within the stipulated timeframe, promote the use of solar energy at departmental establishments and improve water user charge collection.
The government has also set a target of increasing urban water supply coverage from 90 per cent to 93 per cent by March 31, 2027. Sh. Ranbir Gangwa reiterated that ensuring safe drinking water, an efficient sewerage system and sustainable water management remain among the state government's foremost priorities.
He said the Haryana Government is fully committed to providing every citizen with quality drinking water, improved sanitation facilities and modern water management services.
