In accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India, a high-level meeting regarding the Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls with reference to the qualifying date 01-01-2027 and the Rationalisation of Polling Stations was held today at the District Administrative Complex. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Amritsar, Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh, IAS.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Ms. Pallavi Mishra, IAS, Election Tehsildar Mr. Rajinder Singh, all Electoral Registration Officers, Election Kanungos, and representatives of various recognised political parties, including the Indian National Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party, Aam Aadmi Party, and Bahujan Samaj Party, who shared their valuable suggestions regarding the rationalisation process.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh said that the primary objective of the rationalisation of polling stations is to provide voters with polling facilities closer to their residences and to make the electoral process more efficient, transparent, and voter-friendly. He informed that detailed deliberations were held on the preliminary proposals prepared for establishing new polling stations in various Assembly Constituencies of the district, shifting polling stations functioning from dilapidated buildings to more suitable locations, and making necessary changes in the nomenclature of polling stations.

The District Election Officer shared the list of proposed polling stations with the representatives of political parties and appealed to them to examine the proposals carefully. He requested that if they had any objections or suggestions regarding the distance, location, or building of any polling station, they should submit their written suggestions to the District Election Office within the stipulated time so that further action could be taken as per the prescribed rules.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed all Electoral Registration Officers to personally inspect the polling stations and ensure the availability of essential facilities such as ramps, drinking water, electricity, and toilet facilities so that every voter, especially senior citizens and persons with disabilities, can cast their vote without any inconvenience.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the representatives of the political parties appreciated the initiative taken by the District Administration and assured their full cooperation in making the electoral process more transparent, fair, and convenient for the voters.
