Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Thursday launched an extensive series of department-wise review meetings aimed at preparing short-term and long-term governance strategies, with officials tasked with drawing up comprehensive one-year, three-year and five-year action plans for every department.

The review exercise, which will continue until July 22, is expected to assess the performance of key government departments, identify implementation challenges and set measurable targets for improving service delivery over the coming years.

The first meeting of the day focused on the Co-operation, Food and Consumer Protection Department. The Chief Minister reviewed the functioning of the department, ongoing welfare initiatives, public distribution systems, cooperative institutions and consumer protection measures.

Officials also discussed future priorities and development plans designed to strengthen public services and improve administrative efficiency. Food and Civil Supplies Minister P. Venkataramanan, Cooperation Minister V. Gandhiraj and Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson attended the meeting.

Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar, along with senior bureaucrats and departmental officials, briefed the Chief Minister on the department’s performance and the progress of various schemes. Later in the day, Vijay chaired a review meeting of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department.

The discussions centred on revenue administration, disaster preparedness, emergency response mechanisms, land administration and measures to strengthen the state’s capacity to deal with natural calamities. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan participated in the meeting along with Finance Minister Marie Wilson.

The Chief Secretary and senior officials presented detailed reports on departmental activities and outlined proposals for future initiatives. The review meetings form part of the government’s broader effort to establish a structured roadmap for governance and ensure that every department works towards clearly defined objectives over the next five years.

Apart from evaluating the implementation of existing schemes, the meetings are also expected to identify policy priorities, improve inter-departmental coordination and accelerate the execution of major development projects. Government sources said the department-wise reviews will cover a wide range of sectors over the next three weeks, enabling the Chief Minister to directly monitor progress, assess administrative performance and guide policy formulation.

The exercise is intended to help the government align departmental functioning with its long-term development vision while ensuring that public welfare programmes are implemented efficiently and within stipulated timelines.
