In accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India, a special campaign under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will commence in Amritsar district from June 25, 2026. Disclosing this during a press conference, District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Amritsar, Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh, stated that from June 25 to July 24, 2026, a total of 2,134 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit households across the district to distribute enumeration forms and assist voters in completing them.
The District Election Officer informed that to successfully carry out the SIR exercise across the district’s 11 Assembly Constituencies, the administration has deployed 11 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 22 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), 110 Additional AEROs, 213 Sector Officers, and 2,134 Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
He further stated that the rationalization of polling stations will be completed by July 24, 2026, while the draft electoral rolls will be published on August 3, 2026. Claims and objections regarding the electoral rolls may be submitted from August 3 to September 2, 2026, and their disposal will be carried out between August 3 and September 28, 2026.
The final electoral rolls will be published on October 1, 2026. Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh informed that 88.61 per cent of voters in Amritsar district have already been covered under the Pre-SIR mapping exercise. He appealed to all voters to obtain information about their respective BLOs and remain in regular contact with them to complete the voter registration and verification process.
He further stated that political parties have also appointed Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to ensure transparency and to make certain that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral rolls. The District Election Officer reiterated that, in accordance with the strict directions of the Election Commission of India, the district administration will ensure that every eligible citizen is enrolled as a voter, no eligible voter is deleted from the rolls, and no ineligible person is included in the electoral rolls.
He urged citizens not to be misled by rumours or misinformation regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). For any information related to the SIR process, citizens may contact the Election Commission’s toll-free helpline 1950. He further informed that District Grievance Redressal Officers (DGROs) have been appointed at the district level to address complaints related to SIR.
The District Election Officer also shared information regarding the Election Commission of India’s newly launched “Book a Call with BLO” feature. Through the Election Commission’s website or the ECI NET Mobile App, voters can connect directly with their concerned BLO over the phone and obtain information regarding electoral rolls, voter registration, and the SIR process.
Earlier, District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Amritsar, Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh, held a meeting with representatives of recognized political parties regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). During the meeting, detailed information was shared regarding the distribution, filling, and collection of enumeration forms during the upcoming house-to-house visits by BLOs.
The District Election Officer informed political parties that a total of 5,251 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) have been appointed across the district by various political parties. These include 2,094 BLAs from the Aam Aadmi Party, 1,887 from the Indian National Congress, 814 from the Shiromani Akali Dal, 390 from the Bharatiya Janata Party, and 66 from the Bahujan Samaj Party.
He urged all political parties to appoint BLA-2s in every Assembly Constituency to ensure that the SIR exercise is completed in an error-free manner. Appealing to all political parties to actively participate in the SIR exercise and extend full cooperation to the election machinery, Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh emphasized the need for collective efforts in completing the mapping of the remaining unmapped voters. He also addressed and clarified various queries raised by representatives of political parties regarding the SIR process.
Among those present during the meeting were Election Tehsildar Rajinder Singh Kahlon, Election Kanungo Prakirt Singh, Aam Aadmi Party District President Gurpratap Singh Sandhu, Hargobind Singh Gill representing the Indian National Congress, Tara Chand Bhagat, State Secretary of the Bahujan Samaj Party, Jagdish Duggal, and other representatives of recognized political parties.
