Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in International Yoga Day celebrations on Sunday by performing yoga with hundreds of enthusiasts on the banks of Blue Lake in the Asola-Bhati area of the national capital. The event was organised as part of the nationwide observance of the 12th International Day of Yoga, which saw large-scale participation across the country.

Sharing details of the programme on X, the Chief Minister said: "Today, on the occasion of the 12th International Yoga Day, I practiced yoga along with hundreds of yoga enthusiasts by the Blue Lake in Asola-Bhati. This year's theme, ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing,’ conveys the message of a healthy, active, and balanced life."

Highlighting the importance of yoga in public health, she added: "Yoga is an important medium in the direction of making Delhi healthy, active, and stress-free. Regular yoga practice will improve the physical and mental health of citizens and also play an important role in building a healthy, energetic, and aware Delhi."

Gupta also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for promoting yoga globally. In her post, she wrote, “Heartfelt thanks to the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, through whose efforts India's this ancient invaluable heritage has today taken the form of a global mass movement and yoga has gained a new identity worldwide.”

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister extended greetings to Delhi residents on the occasion and urged people to incorporate yoga into their daily lives. “Heartfelt greetings to all Delhi residents on International Yoga Day,” she said, adding, “Yoga is an unparalleled gift of our ancient culture.

It establishes balance between body, mind, and soul. In the midst of busy routines, yoga provides spiritual peace and excellent health.” Calling for wider adoption of the practice, CM Gupta urged citizens to make yoga a daily habit. “On this day, resolve to make yoga an integral part of your daily life.

Play your role in building a healthy, strong, and prosperous Delhi. Practice yoga, stay healthy,” she said. International Yoga Day was celebrated across Delhi through programmes at parks, educational institutions, residential colonies, and public spaces, with thousands of people participating in yoga sessions.

The observance formed part of nationwide celebrations led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who participated in the main Yoga Day event in Kolkata, while similar programmes were organised across states to promote wellness, preventive healthcare, and holistic living.

The theme for this year’s observance, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” focused on encouraging people of all age groups to adopt yoga as a tool for maintaining physical fitness, mental well-being, and a balanced lifestyle.
