Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday inspected ongoing work on the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Sabarmati riverfront project and the new campus of Gujarat Technological University (GTU) at Lekawada, reviewing timelines and construction progress on two flagship development initiatives in the state's capital region.

During the visit, Patel inspected development works underway under the three phases of the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Project, a large-scale initiative that will create a riverfront corridor stretching 37.60 kilometres between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of the project, which is being implemented by the Water Resources Department. The development is planned across three stretches: from the Narmada Canal at Karai to Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU), from PDEU to Shahpur Bridge, and from Shahpur Bridge to Chiloda Bridge.

The combined stretch from Karai to PDEU covers 17.20 kilometres. According to the state government, the project is expected to transform the Gandhinagar Metropolitan-GIFT City region by creating a world-class tourism destination while also strengthening road and transport connectivity between Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and surrounding areas.

During the inspection, Patel directed officials to ensure that all works are executed within the stipulated timelines and maintained to high-quality standards. “The projects will be completed within the stipulated timelines and in accordance with high-quality standards,” officials said.

Officials informed him that work under all three phases of the riverfront development project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027. Patel also visited the construction site of the new Gujarat Technological University campus being developed near Gandhinagar and reviewed the progress of ongoing works.

The new campus is being built on 100 acres of land at Lekawada and is expected to be completed by October next year. The facility is expected to serve as a major academic and administrative hub for the university, which oversees engineering, pharmacy, management, and other professional institutions across Gujarat.

Senior officials accompanying the Chief Minister provided detailed updates on construction progress at both sites and outlined the completion timelines. Minister of State for Water Resources, Ishwarsinh Patel, Chief Minister’s Adviser S. S. Rathore, and senior secretaries joined the inspection and briefed Patel on various aspects of the projects.

The review comes as the state government advances several large-scale urban development initiatives in the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar-GIFT City corridor, with the riverfront project and the new GTU campus among the most significant works currently under construction in the region.
