Rotary Club Ropar Central, in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of the College of Pharmacy, Bela Ropar, organized an awareness seminar titled “Drink Buttermilk, Live Healthy” to promote the health benefits of traditional probiotic beverages.

The event featured Prof. Dr. Swaranjit Singh as the chief speaker. Dr. Singh, who serves as the National Chairman of the Drink Buttermilk initiative, Director of SAS Polyclinic, and former Professor and Head of Environmental Biotechnology at AcSIR-IMTECH Chandigarh, delivered an informative address on the nutritional and medicinal value of buttermilk.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Singh described buttermilk as an excellent natural probiotic that supports digestive health by restoring beneficial gut bacteria. He emphasized that regular consumption of buttermilk strengthens immunity, improves digestion, maintains hydration, and provides essential nutrients while containing significantly fewer calories and sugars than aerated beverages.

He encouraged people to adopt buttermilk as a healthy daily drink, especially during the summer season. To complement the awareness campaign, the College of Pharmacy organized a community langar during which buttermilk was served to more than 2,000 people.

Volunteers distributed approximately 750 liters of buttermilk among attendees, receiving an enthusiastic response from the public. Dr. Shailesh Sharma, Director of the College of Pharmacy, Bela, highlighted the importance of promoting healthy dietary habits and noted that buttermilk is a far superior cooling beverage compared to carbonated soft drinks.

Dr. Neelam Sharma and her team efficiently coordinated the langar service, ensuring smooth distribution throughout the event. The seminar successfully combined expert guidance with community outreach, encouraging people to embrace traditional, nutritious, and probiotic-rich beverages for better health.
