Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister, Sh. Anil Vij said that the “Azadi ki Pehli Ladai ka Shaheed Smarak” built in Ambala Cantonment, the land of brave warriors, is set to emerge as a new center of patriotism not only for Haryana but for the entire nation. He said that another grand chapter is being added to the memorial dedicated to the memories of the 1857 First War of Independence, under which a 210-foot-high National Flag (Tiranga) will be installed in the memorial complex.

He further informed that the Tricolour will stand taller than the 206-foot memorial tower, symbolizing patriotism and national pride visible from afar, and will become the tallest National Flag in Ambala. Today, Sh. Vij visited the Martyrs Memorial site to inspect the proposed location for the installation of the National Flag and held discussions with officials.

He directed the concerned authorities to expedite the installation process. Present on the occasion, Martyrs Memorial Director Dr. Kuldeep Saini informed that the National Flag will be installed by the Flag Foundation of India and that a technical team will soon visit the memorial for the work. The Tricolour fluttering at a height of 210 feet at the memorial will symbolize the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs.

In the coming years, this memorial is expected to attract tourists from across the world, much like Kurukshetra and other historic destinations. The Martyrs Memorial is poised to become one of India’s major historical landmarks. Officials apprised that the National Flag should always remain the highest point at any memorial, as it represents honour, sovereignty, and national pride.

The decision was taken so that every visitor arriving at the memorial first witnesses the grandeur of the Tiranga — the pride and identity of the nation.

Martyrs of 1857 Honoured Through Memorial Built with Efforts of Minister Anil Vij

The Martyrs Memorial dedicated to the First War of Independence of 1857 is being developed in Ambala Cantonment through the efforts of Energy Minister Anil Vij. Spread across 22 acres on the Ambala-Delhi GT Road, the memorial pays tribute to the unsung heroes who sacrificed their lives in 1857. Constructed at a cost of approximately ₹700 crore, the memorial is now complete and is expected to be inaugurated soon.

Ambala Cantonment: Land of Bravehearts, Paying Tribute to Martyrs

Ambala Cantonment is known as the land of bravehearts, from where the flame of the 1857 freedom struggle had spread. Through the efforts of Energy Minister Anil Vij, the Martyrs Memorial has been established to honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters.

Similarly, a grand statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose has been installed at Subhash Park in Ambala Cantonment as a tribute to his legacy. In the same spirit, a statue of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh has been installed at the SDM office premises, where tributes are regularly paid to him.

Minister Anil Vij also said that statues of Sukhdev Singh and Rajguru will soon be installed there. Additionally, a statue of Veer Maharana Pratap has been installed at Sadar Bazaar Chowk, while a statue of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar will soon be established at 12 Cross Road.
