Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation and Planning, Rao Inderjit Singh, chaired the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Gurugram on Tuesday. During the meeting, the Union Minister held detailed review of the progress of various development projects and welfare schemes being implemented by different departments.

Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Uttam Singh welcomed the Union Minister on his arrival. MLA, Smt. Bimla Chaudhary and Gurugram MLA, Sh.  Mukesh Sharma were also present during the meeting.During the meeting, the Union Minister directed officers to ensure quality and expetide the development works. 

He said that government schemes should benefit citizens at the grassroots level and stressed the need for better coordination among departments. He emphasized that there should be no negligence in works related to roads, drinking water, health, education and infrastructure, while public grievances should be addressed on priority.

*Focus on Water Conservation and Urban Infrastructure*

The Union Minister directed officers to take effective measures for water conservation and long-term solutions to waterlogging issues in the rapidly growing city of Gurugram. He stressed increasing the reuse of treated water and strengthening groundwater recharge systems.He also directed officers to examine issues related to rainwater drains and encroachments near the Ambience Mall area through a committee mechanism. 

Officers informed that the new drain line project on Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed by June 15, which will help reduce waterlogging between Subhash Chowk and Rajiv Chowk.In addition, work on a box drain near Medanta Hospital is also underway and expected to be completed within the coming weeks to provide relief from waterlogging in nearby areas.

*Directions for Better Waste Management*

The Union Minister expressed concern over the growing construction and demolition (C&D) waste along the Gurugram-Faridabad road and directed officials to ensure strict action against illegal dumping. Authorities informed that substantial penalties have been imposed in such cases and recovery is underway. Measures including barricading and transportation of waste to designated processing plants are also being implemented.

 *Improvement in Public Facilities*

Reviewing public amenities and urban beautification, Rao Inderjit Singh directed officers to appoint more efficient agencies for the maintenance of public toilets and civic infrastructure. He also directed that agencies failing to perform satisfactorily should be blacklisted and replaced to ensure better sanitation and public convenience.Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Uttam Singh also suggested that CSR support could be utilized more effectively for improving public facilities if suitable land is identified and provided.

*Concern Over Bandhwari Landfill Site*

The Union Minister raised concerns regarding the legacy waste accumulated at the Bandhwari landfill site and directed officials to conduct regular groundwater quality checks in nearby areas. He said comparative testing should be carried out to assess the possible impact of the landfill site on groundwater and public health.

Officers informed that around 14 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste currently exist at the site and disposal work is being carried out on priority.

*Push for National Highway Projects*

Reviewing ongoing National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) projects, Rao Inderjit Singh directed officers to expedite infrastructure works and ensure timely completion with high quality standards.Officers informed that the Bilaspur flyover is expected to be completed by August 15, while the Rathivas flyover is targeted for opening by June 15.

*Classes to Begin Soon at Manesar Government College*

Officers informed the meeting that the main construction work of the Government College in Manesar has been completed and classes are expected to begin by June 30. Remaining finishing work is scheduled for completion by October.

*Directions for Encroachment-Free Gurugram*

The Union Minister directed officers to continue regular drives for making Gurugram encroachment-free and ensure smooth movement and better civic management across the city. He stressed that departments should work in coordination to ensure long-term solutions and prevent re-encroachment.

Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Uttam Singh assured the Union Minister that the district administration remains committed to completing all development works and welfare schemes within stipulated timelines while ensuring transparency and effective implementation. Senior officers from the district administration, municipal bodies and various departments were also present during the meeting.
