Governor of Punjab and Administrator of U.T. Chandigarh Shri Gulab Chand Kataria attended the Coffee Table Book Launch and enrolment programme of Civil Defence Volunteers as Chief Guest at Rani Lakshmi Bai Mahila Bhavan, Chandigarh. Marking one year of civil defence volunteerism, the Administrator welcomed the second batch of volunteers and highlighted the growing contribution of Civil Defence Volunteers in strengthening disaster preparedness, emergency response, and community resilience.

More than 330 volunteers have been registered today in Chandigarh. The Administrator also felicitated Civil Defence Volunteers during the event for their contribution towards public safety, disaster response, and community service.

On the occasion of World Red Cross Day, the Chandigarh Red Cross Society also organised a blood donation camp, which was reviewed by the Administrator at Rani Lakshmi Bai Mahila Bhavan. Reaffirming the theme “United in Humanity,” he highlighted the spirit of service, compassion, and voluntary participation in nation-building.

Appreciating the Chandigarh Administration, Disaster Management Authority, and Civil Defence Chandigarh, the Administrator described the initiative as a strong platform for awareness, preparedness, voluntary service, and community empowerment. Referring to one year of “Operation Sindoor,” he termed it a symbol of India’s unity, discipline, courage, and resilience.

The Administrator lauded Civil Defence Volunteers for their active role in flood relief, monsoon response, awareness drives, mock drills, sanitation campaigns, and major public events, including the “Surya Kiran Air Show” and “Chandigarh International Marathon 2026.” He described Civil Defence Volunteers as the “second line of defence” during emergencies and urged citizens, especially youth, to join nation-building efforts and work towards a disciplined and drug-free society.

Also present on the occasion were Home Secretary Shri Mandip Singh Brar, Director General of Police Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda, Deputy Commissioner Shri Nishant Kumar Yadav, Senior Superintendent of Police Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, Civil Defence Volunteers, and other distinguished guests.
