Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal today reviewed the preparedness and preventive strategy regarding dengue and other seasonal diseases in the district and directed all concerned departments to work in coordination to ensure effective prevention and public awareness measures. Chairing a review meeting with officials of the Health Department, Municipal Corporation, Rural Development and Panchayats, Education, Water Supply and Sanitation and other concerned departments, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for proactive measures to prevent the spread of dengue and water-borne diseases during the upcoming season.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the officials to ensure regular fogging and anti-larvicidal spray in urban as well as rural areas, especially at vulnerable locations where water accumulation is reported. She also instructed the concerned teams to intensify surveillance activities and maintain cleanliness in public places to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
Emphasizing the importance of safe drinking water, Komal Mittal directed officials to carry out regular sampling and testing of drinking water across the district to prevent water-borne diseases. She asked departments concerned to take immediate corrective measures wherever contamination is detected.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that large-scale awareness campaigns will be launched to educate people about dengue prevention, symptoms and precautionary measures. Citizens will be encouraged to avoid water stagnation around their homes and workplaces and maintain proper hygiene and sanitation.
She appealed to the residents of the district to actively cooperate with the administration and health teams in keeping their surroundings clean and preventing the spread of diseases. Residents were also urged to observe “Dry Day” every Friday by replacing the water in coolers, flower pots and other containers.
Similarly, stagnant water should be emptied every week to destroy mosquito larvae and prevent breeding. Officials from various departments assured that all preventive measures are being undertaken on priority to safeguard public health in the district.
