Minister for Forest, Ecology and Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, on Tuesday visited Athoora village in Pulwama district to review the progress of the ongoing water supply scheme being executed under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). During his visit the Minister conducted an on ground inspection of the scheme and interacted with officials, engineers, and local residents to assess the current status of water supply and the challenges being faced in its execution.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring safe and adequate drinking water to every household under the flagship mission. Speaking to media persons, Rana stated that the project has faced financial constraints due to delays in the release of funds from the Centre.
However, he assured that the Union Territory administration is taking proactive steps to keep the work going by utilizing its own budgetary resources. He added that continuous engagement is underway with the Central government to secure the pending funds and ensure timely completion of the project.
Despite funding challenges, work will not stop. The UT government is making all possible efforts and is also in constant touch with the Centre for the release of funds,” the Minister said. Rana also appreciated the role of contractors and executing agencies, acknowledging their dedication in continuing work despite financial limitations.
He said their commitment reflects the importance of the project for the local population. The Minister assured that all bottlenecks would be addressed on priority and directed the concerned departments to expedite the pace of work. The visit underscores the administration’s focus on strengthening rural infrastructure and ensuring the successful implementation of key welfare schemes like the Jal Jeevan Mission in Jammu and Kashmir.
