Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Friday said that as India marches towards the vision of 'Vikasit Bharat 2047' following the Amrit Kaal of Independence, Maharashtra is set to play a pivotal role. He announced on Friday that the state will contribute $1 trillion towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of a $5 trillion national economy.

Speaking at the Maharashtra Day celebrations held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park, the Governor expressed confidence that the state government’s 'Viksit Maharashtra 2047' vision document will propel the state to new heights of progress. He called upon every section of society to actively participate in building an inclusive and advanced Maharashtra.

The Governor highlighted Maharashtra's growing reputation as a global investment hub. He said Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 31.25 lakh crore were signed at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The state’s new industrial policy aims to attract Rs 70.5 lakh crore in investments, potentially creating 50 lakh direct jobs.

A dedicated 'Foreign Direct Investment' desk has been established within the Protocol Department to streamline administrative processes for international investors. Governor Varma detailed the rapid expansion of the state's infrastructure. “The state has approved the PPP Policy 2026, formulated by MITRA (Maharashtra Institution for Transformation).

The Navi Mumbai International Airport is poised to become the country’s new gateway. Metro Line-3 (Aqua Line) is now fully operational, and a 340-km waterway network is being developed in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The Vadhavan Port in Palghar, set to be the largest in India, is expected to generate over 12 lakh direct jobs,” he mentioned.

According to the Governor, the state remains committed to the welfare of the Baliraja (farmers). Over Rs 15,950 crore has been distributed directly to more than 1 crore farmers affected by natural calamities. Under the Chief Minister’s Baliraja Free Electricity Scheme, 45 lakh agricultural pumps are receiving electricity subsidies worth Rs 25,087 crore.

“Maharashtra secured a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records by installing 45,911 solar pumps between October and November 2025, leading the nation in sustainable energy,” he noted. Governor Varma said that under the 'Chief Minister Student Science Yatra,' rural students will visit premier institutions like ISRO and NASA.

Through the 'Umed' mission, 40 lakh women have become 'Lakhpati Didis,' with the number expected to reach 50 lakh soon. He further stated that the state is streamlining recruitment to fill 50,000 posts via MPSC and 20,000 posts through other departments.

The new 'Nipun Setu' initiative will provide private sector opportunities to candidates who reach the final interview stage but aren't selected for government roles. The Governor also touched upon several social initiatives, including My Village, Healthy Village, Swastha Nari Sashakt Parivar campaign and Kumbh Mela.

He said that over 1 crore women have been screened under the Swastha Nari Sashakt Parivar campaign, and menopause clinics have been launched statewide. For Kumbh Mela, a special authority has been established to ensure world-class planning for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik-Trimbakeshwar.

Earlier, the Governor paid tribute to the martyrs of the Samyukta Maharashtra movement and extended greetings for International Labour Day, acknowledging the contribution of workers to the state's growth.
