Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday announced a major industrial boost for Kolaras town in Madhya Pradesh, unveiling plans for a Rs 2,500 crore defence manufacturing plant along with a series of infrastructure projects aimed at accelerating the region's development.

Addressing a public gathering on the first day of his Shivpuri–Kolaras visit, Scindia said the proposed defence facility would be established within the next two months. “Kolaras will receive a Rs 2,500 crore defence plant, which will transform the industrial landscape of the region and fulfil a long-pending demand of nearly two decades,” he said.

The Union Minister stated that the plant will be set up approximately 15 km from Kolaras at the junction of the Kota Highway and the Mumbai–Gwalior Highway, a location he described as strategically important for connectivity and logistics. He added that the project is expected to generate around 2,000 direct employment opportunities, significantly boosting the local economy.

Highlighting the broader implications of the project, Scindia said Kolaras, traditionally known for its agricultural output, particularly tomato production, is now poised to emerge as a key hub in India’s defence manufacturing sector. “Kolaras has long been recognised for its agricultural strength, but it will now also contribute to strengthening the country’s defence capabilities.

The equipment manufactured here will play a crucial role in safeguarding our borders,” he said. He further noted that the investment is likely to spur ancillary industries and economic activity in the region, creating additional livelihood opportunities for local businesses and entrepreneurs.

“This project will have a multiplier effect, encouraging further industrial growth and economic expansion,” Scindia added. In addition to the industrial announcement, the Union Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple infrastructure projects worth Rs 19.68 crore in Kolaras.

Under the PM-JANMAN scheme, he performed the groundbreaking ceremony for boys’ and girls’ hostels and laid the foundation stone for the Janpad Panchayat building. Scindia also inaugurated a newly constructed bus stand and shopping complex aimed at improving connectivity and boosting commercial activity.

He further laid the foundation stone for a sewage treatment plant, which is expected to enhance sanitation and urban infrastructure in the region. Reiterating the government's commitment to balanced development, Scindia said efforts are being made to ensure that infrastructure, employment and essential services reach every part of the region.
