Deputy Commissioner Ms. Komal Mittal today visited Tiwana and Lalru grain markets (mandis) to take stock of the ongoing wheat procurement operations in the district. During her visit, she reviewed the arrangements made for procurement, lifting, and storage, and interacted with farmers, commission agents, and officials to ensure smooth functioning of the procurement process.
Briefing about the progress of wheat procurement in District SAS Nagar, the Deputy Commissioner informed that the procurement process is progressing steadily across all mandis. She shared that the district has recorded today’s arrival of *11,873* metric tonnes (MT), taking the progressive arrival to *1,04,723* MT so far.
She further stated that *12,052* MT of wheat was procured during the day, while the total procurement has reached *1,03,183* MT. Highlighting the lifting operations, she said that *6085* MT was lifted during the day, with the cumulative lifting standing at *30,241* MT.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the officials to ensure timely lifting of procured wheat to avoid any inconvenience to farmers. She emphasized that all basic amenities, including clean drinking water, proper sanitation, and adequate seating arrangements, must be provided in the mandis.
Ms. Mittal also instructed the concerned departments to maintain transparency in procurement and ensure that payments to farmers are made within the stipulated timeframe. She reiterated the commitment of the district administration to facilitate a hassle-free procurement season for farmers.
