A press conference was organized today at the Bharatiya Janata Party, Chandigarh State Office, Sector-33, Kamalam regarding the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’. The press conference was addressed by Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth and senior BJP Haryana leader Kiran Choudhry.

On this occasion, State President Jatinder Pal Malhotra, Mahila Morcha President Heera Negi, State Vice President Indira Singh, State Secretary Meenakshi Thakur, Sonia Duggal, Deputy Mayor Suman Sharma and District President Rekha Sood were prominently present.

Union Minister Sanjay Seth strongly criticized the opposition, stating that “in a democracy, responsible conduct is expected, but on a historic bill like the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, the opposition indulged in mere political rhetoric instead of meaningful debate.”

He said the bill is a historic step towards providing 33% reservation to women, but was opposed by Congress and its allies due to their narrow political interests and fear of losing dynastic control. He further emphasized that this is a Constitutional Amendment Bill requiring a two-thirds majority and highlighted the need for delimitation in accordance with population growth to ensure effective representation.

Launching a sharp attack, he stated that “by opposing the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, Congress and its allied parties have exposed their double standards. On one hand, they claim to support women’s empowerment, while on the other, they step back when it comes to granting real rights.”

He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, initiatives like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Ujjwala Yojana and Swachh Bharat have brought transformative changes in the lives of women across the country. Kiran Choudhry, in her address, said that India’s Constitution makers, especially Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, had a progressive vision and granted equal political rights to women from the very beginning.

She noted that while women in many countries had to struggle for voting rights, India ensured equality from the outset. She stated that despite over 70 years of independence, particularly during Congress rule, women’s political participation was not implemented in its true spirit.

“The Women’s Reservation Bill was repeatedly introduced as a mere formality, without real intent to pass it,” she said. Referring to 2010, she pointed out that despite having a full majority, Congress failed to pass the bill in the Lok Sabha, exposing its lack of political will.

She accused them of treating women merely as a vote bank. She praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives such as Swachh Bharat Mission, Ujjwala Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana and Ayushman Bharat, stating that these schemes have ensured real empowerment at the grassroots level.

“Today, rural girls even demand toilets in homes before marriage this reflects true empowerment,” she remarked. She termed the developments in Parliament as “a dark chapter in history,” criticizing the opposition for delaying women’s reservation on technical grounds.

At the end of the press conference, BJP leaders expressed confidence that the women of the country will understand the truth and respond democratically. They reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring 33% reservation for women and securing rightful representation for the nation’s daughters.
