Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Minister, Tarunpreet Singh Sond, today visited various villages of Derabassi block to review the progress of ongoing playground development works.Accompanied by MLA Derabassi, Kuljit Singh Randhawa, the Minister inspected villages including Badana, Bhagsi, Miyanpur and Mukundpur.
During the visit, the Minister took stock of the construction work and directed officials to ensure timely completion with quality standards.Minister Sond said that the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is focusing on inculcating sporting habits among the youth and providing a conducive sports environment for budding players.
He informed that around 3,100 playgrounds are being developed across the state with modern facilities and equipment.He further stated that in SAS Nagar district alone, a total of 90 playgrounds are under development. These playgrounds are being equipped with essential amenities such as chain-link fencing, toilets, footpaths, floodlights, high mast lights, volleyball courts and football grounds, depending on the availability of space.
The Minister reiterated that the state government is committed to delivering quality services to the people of Punjab, including improved education and healthcare facilities. He highlighted that Punjab has taken a pioneering step by providing health insurance coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh per family, empanelling both government and private hospitals for accessible treatment.
Speaking about rural development initiatives, Sond said that under the Rangla Punjab Mission, each constituency is being provided a grant of Rs 5 crore for infrastructure and basic amenities upgradation. He added that village ponds are being rejuvenated to prevent overflow and ensure proper water management.
Additionally, effective drainage systems are being developed and villagers are being sensitized about solid waste management practices.The Minister emphasized that these initiatives aim to ensure holistic rural development and improve the quality of life in villages across Punjab.
