The Department of Telecommunications, Haryana LSA, in coordination with Sirsa Police, successfully organized a high-impact interaction programme at the Tagore Auditorium Chaudhry Devi Lal University, Sirsa. The meeting was jointly chaired by Shri Radhacharan Shakya, Addl. Director General Telecom, Haryana LSA and Shri Deepak Saharan, SP Sirsa.

The event drew over 100 participants, including senior police officers, Telecom Service Provider (TSP) officials, and Points of Sale (PoS) from across the district, reflecting a strong commitment to collaborative action in promoting secure telecom practices and combating cyber fraud. Addressing the gathering, Addl. DG Haryana LSA emphasized the pivotal role of secure communication in nation-building and advancing the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Digital Bharat vision.

He highlighted the growing menace of cyber fraud and scams exploiting telecom services, underscoring the need for vigilance and proactive measures by all stakeholders. He outlined the comprehensive mechanisms deployed by the DoT to counter cyber fraud, including the tracking and linking of mobile numbers involved in illicit activities through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) and the Sanchar Saathi portal.

The Addl. DG also noted the collaborative efforts of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, and service centres of banks and financial institutions in developing Financial Risk Indicators (FRIs) to identify and flag suspicious financial transactions arising from telecom misuse.

Citizens were informed about key reporting channels, including the 1930 helpline for immediate reporting of cyber financial fraud and the www.cybercrime.gov.in portal for lodging cybercrime complaints, enabling timely intervention and protection of financial interests. Participants were further briefed on initiatives such as the 1600 series for secure banking and financial transactions, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and responsible use of telecom services.

The programme also detailed the SIM acquisition process, emphasizing precautions for PoS operators and TSPs to prevent misuse. Key citizen-centric initiatives under the Sanchar Saathi platform were showcased, including Chakshu for reporting suspicious calls and messages, Block Your Lost/Stolen Mobile Handset, Know Mobile Connections in Your Name, Know Your Mobile Handset (KYM), and RICWIN for tracking international calls.

During the discussion, SP Sirsa appreciated the initiative of DoT for addressing the cyber related concerns of the citizens through enhanced coordination and cooperation of LEAs, TSPs and DoT. He further solicited the support in respect of misuse of international calls, virtual calls and misuse of VPNs by the anti-national and anti-social elements.

DoT assured to address aforesaid issues with its full capacity and capability and due coordination among various agencies under the extant rule of the law. The programme concluded with an interactive session, where queries from PoS operators and police officials were comprehensively addressed.

The DoT reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding citizens through awareness campaigns, preventive action, and coordinated efforts with law enforcement agencies and service providers, fostering a secure, reliable, and responsible telecom ecosystem.
