In the ongoing "War Against Criminals" launched by CM Punjab and DGP Punjab to ensure a crime-free state, the SAS Nagar Police has achieved a significant success when Dera Bassi Sub-Division Police busted a tricity-based theft module with the arrest of two individuals and recovery of nine stolen two-wheelers, said Sh. Harmandeep Singh Hans, IPS, SSP SAS Nagar here on wednesday.

The arrested duo has been identified as Akshay Khan, a resident of Sheikhpur Kalan, Dera Bassi and Raju, a resident of Street No. 9, Gulabgarh Road, Dera Bassi. Divulging the details, SSP said that following complaints regarding vehicle thefts in Zirakpur-Dera Bassi and adjoining Haryana area, a special team was constituted under the supervision of SP Rural, Manpreet Singh and SP Dera Bassi Bikramjit Singh Brar.

The team, led by Insp. Sumit Mor (SHO Dera Bassi), worked on technical inputs and human intelligence and successfully identifed Raju as a prime suspect. On April 5th, the team apprehended Raju while he was riding a stolen Splendor motorcycle.

During interrogation, he confessed to the involvement of his accomplice, Akshay Khan. Following his lead, the police swiftly arrested Akshay and further recovered eight additional stolen motorcycles (six Splendors and one Honda Shine) hidden by the duo, said SSP.

The SSP further briefed that they had removed the number plates and were scouting for buyers to dispose of the vehicles when the police intervened. Accused Akshay Khan has a criminal background with a previous snatching case registered against him; he had been out on bail since March 2025, said SSP.

A fresh case FIR No. 142, dated 05.04.2026 has been registered at PS Dera Bassi under Sections 303(2) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigations are underway to trace potential buyers and other links, said SSP.
