BJP leader Akshay Sharma, from the Amritsar North assembly constituency, participated in the grand 'Hind-Di-Chadar' Shahidi Samagam organized by the Maharashtra Government in Navi Mumbai (Kharghar). Akshay Sharma was the only leader from Punjab to attend this historic state-level program dedicated to the 350th martyrdom year of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
Special Honor for Selfless Service
This distinction was conferred upon Akshay Sharma for his efforts in spreading the glorious history of the Guru Sahib to the masses and for the successful organization of the 'Free Bus Service' for devotees. Notably, in December, while humanity was commemorating the supreme sacrifice of the Four Sahibzadas, Akshay Sharma had organized a successful 7-day massive free service yatra from Amritsar to Fatehgarh Sahib.
Appreciating this selfless service and religious dedication, the Maharashtra Government and the organizing committee invited him to be a part of this holy event.
Dignified Presence of National Leadership
The two-day Samagam, held on February 28 and March 1, witnessed the presence of the country's top leadership. Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally attended the ceremony and lauded Akshay Sharma’s service activities, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the gathering virtually, paying obeisance to the martyrdom of Guru Sahib and the Sikh heritage. The Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and other cabinet ministers of Maharashtra were also present at the event.
On this occasion, Akshay Sharma stated that bowing before Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji on the holy land of Navi Mumbai and being a part of this historic gathering in the presence of the Home Minister is the most emotional moment of his life.
He remarked that this honor does not belong to him alone, but to the entire 'Sangat' of Amritsar who considered him worthy of serving the Guru’s cause. Akshay Sharma shared that he is a Mohyal Brahmin and takes immense pride in his ancestors, who made great sacrifices to uphold the glory of Sikhism and stood firmly with the Guru Sahibs at every step.
He added that while this honor was bestowed upon him for his service dedicated to the Four Sahibzadas, he also believes that his ancient ancestral bond with Sikhism is a positive reason behind it. He concluded by saying that he has always bowed his head before the Gurus and will continue to do so forever.
