The Brahma Kumaris organized a spiritually uplifting Shivratri celebration at Sukh Shanti Bhawan, Phase-7, Mohali, on the auspicious occasion of the Navdashkotsav – 90th Trimurti Shiv Jayanti. The event was conducted in an atmosphere of devotion, enthusiasm, and deep spirituality. Approximately 500 devotees and distinguished citizens graced the program.
The program commenced with a cultural welcome dance presented by Kumari Navya, which left the audience deeply moved. Dr. Ankita Kansal (PCS, Mohali) and Prabhjot Kaur (Chairperson, District Planning Committee, Mohali) attended as the chief guests.
Presiding over the event, Brahma Kumari Prem Lata, In-charge of Rajyoga Centres, Mohali–Ropar Region, shared profound spiritual insights. She remarked that while society today possesses abundant religious institutions, wealth, technology, skills, and grand buildings, there remains a noticeable absence of mental peace, contentment, happiness, love, and compassion.
She emphasized that human beings have become deeply influenced by vices, leading to the erosion of civility and positivity. The inner strength required to overcome negativity has weakened, resulting in the loss of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. She observed that there is often a contradiction between religious teachings and practical actions, giving rise to stress, unrest, and familial discord.
Explaining the spiritual essence of Shivratri, she stated that it symbolizes the “night of ignorance,” when the Supreme Father, Supreme Soul Shiva, incarnates at the end of the Iron Age through Brahma to illuminate souls with the light of knowledge and re-establish purity as the foundation of life.
She further inspired the gathering to use Shivratri as an opportunity to forget mutual differences, adopt goodwill, peace, and human virtues, and take a firm pledge to renounce addictions, negative thinking, and inner weaknesses.
In the sacred presence of Brahma Kumaris brothers and sisters, the Shiv Flag Hoisting Ceremony was also conducted, filling the environment with divine vibrations and spiritual energy.
BK Aditi, Rajyoga Teacher, explained the deeper spiritual significance of Shivratri. She highlighted that rituals such as offering the Aak flower, buttermilk, and observing fasts carry symbolic spiritual meanings from the Brahma Kumaris’ perspective. She conveyed that Shivratri is a festival of self-awakening, purity, and liberation from vices, encouraging individuals to surrender their weaknesses to God and imbibe elevated sanskars (virtues).
In her address, Dr. Ankita Kansal stated that Indian festivals and traditions hold deep spiritual value, and it is essential to convey this wisdom to the younger generation. She expressed concern over rising mental stress in modern times and underlined that brotherhood, harmony, peace, and positive resolutions are key to a simple, healthy, and fulfilling life.
BK Rama, Co-Incharge of Rajyoga Centres (Mohali–Ropar Circle), conducted a Rajyoga meditation session. Through a soothing guided commentary, participants experienced deep peace and inner joy.
