Member of Parliament from Sangrur, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, along with OSD to the Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Singh Mann, Sukhvir Singh, on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new building of the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at village Bararwal in the Dhuri Assembly constituency. 

The project will be executed at a cost of ₹12.27 crore. On the occasion, they also reviewed the ongoing renovation work of the existing ITI building, being carried out at an estimated cost of ₹3 crore. Addressing the gathering, MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that the Punjab Government is according top priority to skill-based and employment-oriented education to make youth self-reliant and capable of earning a livelihood through self-employment. 

He informed that the new ITI building at village Bararwal will be constructed at a cost of ₹12.27 crore and will be a modern three-storey structure with a total covered area of 35,408 square feet. He further stated that, apart from the construction of the building, the project will include the construction of boundary walls, parking facilities, internal roads, and attractive landscaping. 

He said that this state-of-the-art ITI will connect youth with new and emerging technologies that are in high demand in the job market. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has also invested hundreds of crores of rupees in strengthening school infrastructure across the state to provide a better learning environment for students, he added.

Congratulating the residents of Dhuri, CM’s OSD Sukhvir Singh said that the Government ITI will offer two-year courses such as Electrician, Fitter, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician, Mechanic Electric Vehicle, and Machinist, along with one-year courses including Plumber, Draughtsman Civil, Multimedia Animation and Special Effects, Cosmetology, Computer Operator and Programming Assistant, Sewing Technology, and Surface Ornamentation Technique (Embroidery).

He said that under the new courses being introduced in ITIs across Punjab, this institution will provide training facilities to nearly 450 youth. With the construction of the new building, Punjab’s youth will be equipped with industry-oriented skills, encouraging them towards self-employment and entrepreneurship.

He further informed that upon completion of the construction work, the required teaching and administrative posts will be filled as per the norms prescribed by the Directorate General of Training. This ITI will serve as a major skill development centre for the surrounding areas, generate local employment opportunities, and play a vital role in the economic development of the region.

Expressing confidence, he said that the establishment of this institution will make the youth of the region skilled, employable, and self-reliant, thereby contributing significantly to the vision of a prosperous and progressive Punjab. On the occasion, Chairman Dalvir Singh Dhillon and Chairman Rajwant Singh Gulli said that the first Government ITI in Dhuri had earlier been operating from just two rooms. 

Under the initiative of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, it was shifted to a larger building, and ₹3 crore was released for renovation work, which is currently underway. Now, with the initiation of construction of a new building at a cost of ₹12.27 crore, a total investment of around ₹15 crore is being made. This ITI will play a key role in skill development among students of Dhuri and the adjoining areas.
