In a good news, the Expert Committee set up by the Punjab government regarding setting up of a CBG Plant at village Bagga Kalan of district has submitted its final report. And the company setting up this CBG plant has agreed to make amendments as per the recommendations of the expert committee. This expert committee comprises of Dr. Manoj Shrivastav, Principal Scientist ICAR, Dr. Sachin Kumar, NIBE Kapurthala, Dr. Tarak Mondal, Assistant Professor, Chemical Engineer, IIT Ropar, M.P. Singh, Director PEDA, Kulbir Singh Sandhu, Joint Director, Amandeep Singh Sidhu, Department of Organic Farming, PAU, SE, PPCB, Dr. Pardeep Kumar Mishra СРСВ, Dr. Kunal Jain, Department of Oncology, DMCH Ludhiana, Dr. G.S. Brar, Department of Oncology, DMCH Ludhiana, Dr. Sarit Sharma, Department of Community Medicine, DMCH Ludhiana, Dr. Shalini, Department of Pharmacology, DMCH Ludhiana, Dr. Virendra Kumar Vijay, IREDA Professor, IIT Delhi and Dr. Sarabjit Sooch, Department of Bio Energy, PAU.

Chief Agriculture Officer, Ludhiana, Environmental Engineer, Punjab Pollution Control Board, Ludhiana, GM, Punjab Energy Development Agency, Ludhiana, Dr. Shashi Kumar Singh, Principal Scientist, PAU, Ludhiana, Dr. Gurpreet Singh Brar, Professor & Head, Surgical Oncology, DMCH, Ludhiana, Talmel Committee members Kanwaljit Khanna, Dr. Balwinder Singh Aulakh, Ex-lecturer, CMC Ludhiana, Sukhdev Singh Bhundri, and Lachman Singh, Member, Talmel Sangarsh Committee, Harpal Singh from Baggan Kalan, Kamlesh Kaur, Sarpanch, Village Chahad, Jaspal Singh from village Chahad and Nachhatar Singh are also members of this committee.

The meeting of expert committee was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, ADC (Rural Development) Amarjit Bains, besides senior District Administration officials. During the expert committee meeting held at Bachat Bhawan today, Dr. Balwinder Singh Aulakh, in the presence of company officials as well as all committee members, gave a detailed presentation over the entire issue and even proposed technological amendments regarding technology that would remove residues from insecticides, pesticides etc from the bio mass.

The company representatives agreed to implement all the amendments in its true spirit and even shared that their company plants to become carbon neutral by 2031. They even assured that there will be zero pollution when this plant starts operations.

It is pertinent to mention that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had asked the environmental expert committee to thoroughly examine the Bagga Kalan CBG plant issue and submit its report in a time bound manner. Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain assured that the Punjab government will not allow any violations, and that no action will be taken without first safeguarding the interests of the villagers. 

He also stated that these plants use paddy straw thus provide a much-needed solution to stubble burning and chemicals produced during the biogas generation are not carcinogenic and do not contaminate the environment soil and water. The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted that all CBG plants are green-category industries and they will have to adhere to all environmental regulations set up by the government and other bodies.

He made it clear that the Bagga Kalan CBG plant will be completely pollution-free as the company has agreed to make all amendments suggested by the Expert Committee. He also said that the CBG plants would provide significant economic opportunities and create local employment in their respective villages itself.

He said that the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab government is committed to preserve the water and environment of the state.
