In continuation to the decisive campaign “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh”, being carried out by the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann to completely eradicate the menace of drugs, MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa flagged off anti-drug awareness pad-yatras under Phase–2 today with its formal launch from village Bakarpur in Derabassi constituency.

Addressing the people on the occasion, MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa said that the Punjab Government is not only taking strict legal action against drug trafficking but is also focusing on social awareness to steer youth towards the right direction. He said that during Phase–2, special emphasis will be laid on grassroots-level awareness, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation in both rural and urban areas.

The MLA stated that drug abuse is not just an individual problem but a serious social issue, and its eradication requires active participation of the public along with the government. He appealed to the youth to stay away from drugs and focus on sports, education and employment.

Speaking on the occasion, Sumit Rana, Halqa Coordinator, said that under the “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh” campaign, a mass movement against drugs is being built through pad-yatras, awareness camps, programmes in schools and colleges, and extensive public outreach at the village level. He added that making Punjab drug-free is a collective resolve of all.

During the pad-yatra, people were made aware of the ill effects of drug abuse and were also informed about the treatment and rehabilitation facilities being provided by the government for those willing to quit drugs. A large number of local residents, youth and panchayat representatives participated in the pad-yatra.

Reiterating the government’s firm resolve, MLA Randhawa said that the Punjab Government’s message is loud and clear that this fight against drugs will continue relentlessly, and with public cooperation, a Drug-Free Punjab will be ensured.
