Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Tuesday issued strict and time-bound directions to multiple departments and executive agencies during the District Road Safety Committee meeting, warning of zero tolerance for any lapses that could endanger public lives.Presiding over the meeting, DC Jain directed all concerned agencies to act with utmost urgency to prevent mishaps.

He strictly ordered the immediate installation of cat's eyes, reflectors, and blinkers on an emergency basis across high-risk stretches, dividers, roads along canals, and sharp turns. These critical measures, essential for guiding drivers in fog by reflecting headlights, must be completed within five days without fail.

Further in a firm directive to curb rear-end collisions involving heavy vehicles in fog, DC Jain ordered District Industries Centre's General Manager, officials from GST, Excise, to ensure all industries, business establishments, and companies install retro-reflective yellow tapes on their commercial vehicles.

The roadways and PRTC officials have been directed to ensure such tapes on all buses and the Departments of Cooperatives and Agriculture are specifically tasked with enforcing this for tractor-trolleys, with no leniency permitted.Focusing on Ladowal Bypass and the stretch from Samrala Chowk to Toll Plaza (Jalandhar side), the DC strictly directed NHAI to immediately install speed control barriers, rumbler stripes, blinkers, signages, and view cutters to avoid mishaps.

DC Jain also issued stern orders for immediate and intensive challaning of modified or overloaded vehicles violating the Motor Vehicles Act and posing grave danger to public safety. Concerned Officials have been directed to submit a detailed report on challans issued and actions taken by January 5, 2026.

He also asked the checking of school buses to ensure Safe school Vahan Policy was implemented in right earnest. He said that the violation of this policy means posing a huge risk to the life and safety of the school children, which could not be allowed at any cost.

SDMs, RTA, Traffic Police, GMs of Roadways and PRTC, Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL), PWD, Mandi Board, and NHAI – must submit compliance reports by January 5, 2026. The next review meeting is fixed for January 6, 2026.In a clear warning, DC stated that non-compliance will invite strict disciplinary action.
