The Chandigarh Administration has achieved a landmark national recognition by winning the Gold Award for “Best Union Territory for EV Overall”among all the UT’s at the prestigious Motoring World Green Mobility Awards 2025,-Delhi reflecting its sustained commitment to building a clean, efficient, and future-ready urban mobility ecosystem.

The Gold Award for “Best UT for EV Overall” was received by CREST, nodal agency for renewable energy and EV promotion on behalf of the Chandigarh administration, acknowledging the strategic leadership and coordinated institutional efforts of administration behind Chandigarh’s green mobility transformation.The award was presented by Hon’ble Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, marking a moment of high national significance. 

The award ceremony was attended by CEO CREST Navneet Srivastava and Project Director Sukhwinder Abrol. The Motoring World Green Mobility Awards 2025, a flagship national initiative launched by Motoring World magazine of the Delhi Press Group, in collaboration with TERI, New Delhihas been conceived to recognize meaningful and measurable progress across India’s sustainable mobility landscape. 

The platform celebrates excellence across the full spectrum of green mobility—policy formulation, infrastructure development, technological innovation, environmental impact, and implementation outcomes—while highlighting the institutions and individuals driving this nationwide transition. The selection of awardees followed a robust, transparent, and multi-stage evaluation process, anchored in RTI responses, verified government data, official digital portals, and credible public research. 

The assessment was carried out under the supervision of an eminent jury panel comprising distinguished experts in sustainability, electric mobility, urban planning, and public policy. The research framework and evaluation methodology were developed in consultation with renowned knowledge partners, including the Council for Environment, Energy and Water (CEEW) and the TERI School of Advanced Studies (TERI SAS), both of which were also represented on the jury panel, ensuring independence, credibility, and national benchmarking.

Speaking on the event,Shri Nitin Gadkari Hon’ble Minister,Roadtransport,GoI emphasized the importance of alternative fuel and unlimited future of EVs and alternative fuel technology in the country. He strongly suggested that with the new technology coming in ,India can very soon be Net exporter of Energy rather than importer.

The awards ceremony was held on 16 December 2025 at Travancore Palace, New Delhi, as a high-profile national event bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and innovators from across the country.Other States and Union Territories were also recognized in categories, such asEV Charging Tariffs, EV Charging Infrastructure,EV Manufacturing Ecosystem ,EV Taxi Fleet, Four-Wheeler EV Adoption etchighlighting the nationwide efforts toward sustainable transportation and creating a benchmark for others to follow.

Chandigarh’s recognition as the Best Union Territory for Overall EV Performance reflects its comprehensive and forward-looking approach to electric mobility, including accelerated EV adoption, expansion of charging infrastructure, integration of clean transport solutions, and the implementation of progressive and citizen-centric policies.

The award further reinforces Chandigarh’s position as a national benchmark and model EV City, offering replicable best practices for States and UTs driving India’s transition towards sustainable, low-carbon transportation.
