Member of Parliament Sangrur Mr Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer today distributed grant letters amounting to Rs 45 lakh to 18 needy families in Handiaya under the government’s Aawas Yojna for the construction of new pucca houses.
He informed that each family will receive a grant of Rs 2.50 lakh from the government to help them build their own house. He also mentioned that compensation have already been transferred to the accounts of owners of 30 houses in Handiaya that were damaged due to rains.
Punjab Government has provided this assistance to support people during difficult times and to ease their hardships. The payable amount has been successfully credited to the beneficiaries’ accounts. Similarly, at village Patti Sekhwan, Meet Hayer inaugurated the Rs 12 crore project of the Kurar Minor canal.
He stated that after 43 years, this 86,000-foot-long canal is being lined with proper concrete lining for the first time since 1982. This will increase the water flow capacity of Kurar Minor, making irrigation water easily available to nearly 30 villages located at the tail end.
He added that the total cost of the entire project is Rs 35 crore. It will give farmers easy access to canal water and they would not have to draw underground water for irrigation purposes. Mr Meet Hayer also launched two works of Barnala Sub Minor worth Rs 5.19 crores.
He also got the bridge-line construction work started from Jhaloor to Bajwa-Sanghera, which will cost approximately Rs 40 crores. He said that during his tenure as Irrigation Minister, projects worth Rs 300 crore were approved for the Barnala area for the first time.
He added, “Today, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Ji has fulfilled our region’s long-pending demands and given a major gift to our people.” Meet Hayer congratulated the residents on the commencement of these new projects and assured them that canal water will soon reach the villages.
Present on the occasion were Halqa Incharge Harinder Singh Dhaliwal, Chairman of Nagar Sudhar Trust Ram Tirath Manna, and other prominent dignitaries.
