Samaira Sandhu, acclaimed actress, writer, Youth Icon, and Brand Ambassador of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Chandigarh, graced the Valedictory Function of the National Library Week–cum–Children’s Day Celebrations 2025 as Chief Guest at T.S. Central State Library, Sector 17, Chandigarh.

The programme featured a Declamation Contest for government school children on the theme:“Artificial Intelligence May Be Smart, But Books Make Us Wise.”Students presented thoughtful speeches highlighting the importance of reading and the responsible use of technology.

Ms. Samaira Sandhu honoured all prize winners and participants. In her inspiring address, she reminded the audience that every citizen must take responsibility to abstain from substance abuse and work for a healthier society. Speaking on the contest theme, she emphasised that AI should only be used as a tool, while true wisdom, depth, and understanding come from reading books.

The Chief Guest , Ms Samaira Sandhu also inaugurated a Book Exhibition in observance of the 350th Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, displaying books on his life, teachings, and legacy. She also visited the Poster Exhibition on social issues created by children displayed in Children section of the library, appreciating the meaningful artworks and messages.

The Declamation Contest was judged by Ms. Devyani Singh and Ms. Anita Surbhi, both accomplished writers of Chandigarh, who praised the participants for their clarity, confidence, and depth of expression.The week-long celebrations recorded more than 500 participants across various literary, cultural, and creative activities organised by the library.

The event was organised under the leadership of Dr. Neeza Singh, Librarian, who thanked all guests, schools, and participants. She shared that the purpose of the celebrations was to promote reading, inspire critical thinking, and engage children meaningfully beyond digital distractions.

Mrs. Neelam Bansal, Library Incharge, played a key role in coordinating the programmes throughout the week and expressed appreciation for the enthusiastic participation of students and teachers, noting that such activities help strengthen the reading culture and encourage community involvement. The ceremony marked the successful culmination of the National Library Week and Children’s Day Celebrations 2025
