In its ongoing crackdown on corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) today arrested Patwari Sarabjit Singh posted at circle Golward village Bala Chak, district Tarn Taran. He was caught red-handed accepting a second installment of bribe Rs 25000/- from a complainant, who is a resident of district Amritsar.

Disclosing this a spokesperson of VB said that the complainant wants to sell his land and for selling it, the complainant obtained the copy of the mutation (fard) of his land.  Then, he came to know that this land is not registered in his name, but in the name of some other person.

He further informed that the complainant met circle Patwari Sarabjit Singh to get this mutation corrected who demanded a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh in lieu of correcting the record of his mutation.The deal was negotiated and settled at Rs. 30,000/-. In this regard, accused Patwari received a bribe of Rs. 5,000/- from the complainant on the spot as first installment.

Acting on complainant information, a VB team laid a trap and arrested Patwari Sarabjit Singh red handed while accepting the bribe amount of Rs. 25000/- as a second installment in the presence of two official witness. A case under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Police Station Vigilance Bureau, Range Amritsar. 

The accused will be produced in competent court tomorrow, and further investigation is underway.
