Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini  while chairing a high-level meeting on road safety here today firmly directed all departments to ensure that every identified road black spot in the state  is rectified by March 31, 2026. He emphasized that accident-prone locations must be rectified on top priority through a coordinated, mission-mode campaign.

During the meeting the Chief Minister outlined a wide-ranging set of measures including ensuring safe student transport, strengthening the road infrastructure and  ensuring  strict traffic enforcement, aimed at significantly reducing accidents in the state. Highlighting the rising number of students, the Chief Minister directed that additional buses be deployed during morning peak hours, with shorter intervals to ensure smooth travel for school and college-going students. 

He made it clear that private operators must also offer student passes, similar to government buses, and warned of strict action if any complaint arises.

Ensuring the safety of school children is the utmost priority of the government, CM

Calling the safety of school children the government’s highest priority,  Sh. Nayab Singh Saini  directed the officers concerned to enforce all school transport norms without exception. He directed regular inspections of school bus safety standards, including the proper functioning of GPS systems.

Notably, during the meeting  all the departments have been directed to identify and eliminate all road black spots  within the given deadline, with the Chief Minister emphasizing swift field action and continuous monitoring so that a clear drop in accident numbers becomes visible.

State-Level Nodal Officer to Coordinate Road Safety Efforts

To streamline inter-department coordination,  the Chief Minister directed the appointment of a dedicated nodal officer who will oversee accident-related issues, track compliance, and push efforts aimed at reducing fatalities.

Those involved in overspeeding, overloading and traffic violations to face stringent action

Taking a strong stance on traffic violations, the Chief Minister directed  that speed monitoring through CCTV cameras be strengthened. He  directed the officers concerned to conduct immediate challaning of overspeeding and overloading vehicles, noting that reckless driving remains among the  key reasons for road accidents.

Speed Breakers, Road Signage, Pothole Repair and Better Monitoring of Construction

The Chief Minister directed that speed breakers be installed at points where link roads meet main roads. Road construction activities must be monitored through a mobile app, with penalties imposed on negligent contractors. Potholes should be filled immediately, proper lighting should be ensured in dark spots and faded signage and road markings  must also be restored, directed Sh. Nayab Singh Saini.

Bus Queue Shelters and Anti–Drink-and-Drive Campaign

To streamline bus operations, the Chief Minister  issues directives for the construction of proper bus queue shelters at designated stopping points. He  further directed the officers for  strict enforcement against drunk driving, along with the installation of public awareness slogans to discourage such behaviour.

Mandatory Reflectors on All Vehicles; Special Fog-Season Campaign

Considering the upcoming winter season when dense fog becomes a main reason for accidents, the Chief Minister made reflectors mandatory for all vehicles, directing a state-wide awareness drive. He clarified that no fee should be charged to citizens for reflector installation and asked district road safety committees to enforce this seriously.

Stray Cattle must be shifted to safe places

Expressing concern over stray cattle posing dangers on roads, the Chief Minister  directed that  stray cattle must be shifted to safe shelters.  He said the impact of these initiatives must reflect clearly in reduced accident numbers and urged departments to work with urgency and seriousness.

Vineet Garg, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Sh.  Arun Kumar Gupta,  Additional Chief Secretary, PW (B&R) and Architecture Department,  Sh. Anurag Agarwal, DGP,  Sh. O.P. Singh and other senior officers also remained present during the meeting.
