Highlighting the long-pending civic and infrastructure challenges affecting more than one lakh residents of Nayagaon and adjoining areas, State Media Head of Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab, Vineet Joshi, met the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh today and demanded the upgradation of three main connecting roads between Nayagaon and Chandigarh — Nayagaon–PEC Road, Nayagaon–Khuda Lohara–PGI Road, and the road behind the Punjab Civil Secretariat.

Joshi briefed the Deputy Commissioner that the Nayagaon–PEC Road is used by the majority of Nayagaon residents but remains heavily congested. He demanded its widening along with the immediate removal of roadside encroachments.

He further stated that the Nayagaon–Khuda Lohara Road via Madhya Marg is the lifeline for residents of Nayagaon and nearby villages. While the Punjab Government has already initiated widening work on its stretch, Chandigarh must complete its corresponding portion without further delay.

Raising the issue of the road behind the Punjab Civil Secretariat, Joshi said that it is a critical commuter route for residents of Nayagaon, Kansal, and Khuda Ali Sher. He requested strategic widening to ensure smooth movement.

He also pointed out that the Khuda Lohara–Nayagaon stretch has turned into an illegal dumping site, causing pollution and health hazards. He demanded immediate clearance of garbage, strict enforcement, and installation of CCTV cameras to prevent recurring dumping.

Joshi further highlighted that the embankment of Patiala Ki Rao from PGI/Khuda Lohara to Nayagaon — which falls under Chandigarh Administration — has been severely damaged due to erosion and lack of maintenance, posing a serious flood risk. He called for urgent strengthening work, construction of a retaining wall, and proper drainage planning.

He also informed the Deputy Commissioner that as per the Notified Master Plan of Nayagaon, a 30-meter wide road is to be constructed from the Khuda Lohara side up to Saketri / IT Park, Panchkula. He requested the administration to initiate the land acquisition process in the area falling under its jurisdiction, as per the directions of the High Court.
