18th Urban Mobility India Conference-cum-Expo 2025 to begin in Gurugram from today

The 18th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference-cum-Expo 2025 is being organized from Friday, 7 November to 9 November, in Gurugram, adjacent to the national capital. The event is being conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, through the Institute of Urban Transport (India). The Haryana Government and Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) are partners in this event.

During the curtain raiser event,  Managing Director GMRL,  Dr. Chander Shekhar Khare, Deputy Commissioner, Sh.  Ajay Kumar, and Director (MRTS), MoHUA,  Sh. Yogesh Antil  also remained  present. Divulging more details in this regard, OSD (Urban Transport), MoHUA, Sh. Jaideep, during the curtain-raiser event held at Gurugram on Thursday said that  Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Sh. Manohar Lal, will inaugurate this three-day conference on Friday.

Sh. Jaideep further said that the primary objective of the conference is to provide cities with knowledge about the latest and best urban transport solutions, ensuring they remain updated with global innovation and advancements. He said such events offer a common platform for experts from India and abroad, policy makers, technical institutions, service providers, and professionals. The event is an important initiative towards building an efficient urban transport system.

While sharing details of the three-day activities, he informed that the programme will be inaugurated on 7 November by Union Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal, while Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini will be the Chief Guest on 8 November. Union Minister of State, Sh. Rao Inderjit Singh, and Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Sh. Tokhan Sahu, along with other dignitaries, will also attend.

Sh. Jaideep said that representatives from India and abroad, senior officers of central and state governments, policy makers, managing directors of metro rail corporations, heads of transport undertakings, international experts, professionals, and academicians will participate in the three-day conference.

Conference theme: “Relationship between Urban Development and Mobility

Sh. Jaideep informed that the theme for the 2025 conference is 'Urban Development and Mobility Nexus'. The conference will focus on strategies for urban development and transport planning. It will highlight how decisions related to urban planning and mobility influence each other, affecting economic growth, environmental sustainability, social equity, and public health. 

Developing mass rapid transit systems in densely populated cities can not only reduce emissions but also ensure safer, healthier, and more inclusive living environments.
