The IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IMC) successfully held a high-impact managing committee session today, featuring thought-provoking talks on ‘Mumbai Metro: Transforming Connectivity and Commuting’. Ms. Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. addressed managing committee of IMC on various transport infrastructure projects in Mumbai and MMR Region.

In her address she said, “Mumbai is the economic powerhouse of Maharashtra, and more than 95% of the population in this region is urbanised. When we talk about Maharashtra as a major contributor to India’s economy, almost 1 trillion dollars is expected to come from Mumbai MMR alone.

That is why it is essential for us to continue investing in large-scale infrastructure like the Mumbai Metro Rail.” In the session, IMC also announced its association with Project Mumbai’s flagship initiative, ‘Mumbai Climate Week’ (MCW), scheduled from February 17–19, 2026.

The inaugural edition, to be hosted by the Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, will position India as a climate action leader of the Global South. Led by Project Mumbai in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra’s Department of Environment and Climate Change and supported by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), MCW aims to foster collaboration and innovation for a sustainable future.

IMC’s association with this initiative reinforces its strong commitment to climate action and environmental stewardship. The association was announced through a logo-exchange ceremony in the esteemed presence of Ms. Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.

Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Shishir Joshi, Founder & CEO of Project Mumbai said, "Mumbai Climate Week marks a historic step for Maharashtra and India as we unite and amplify the voices of the Global South. This unique platform underscores our commitment to empowering climate-resilient communities through inclusive collaboration and relevant solutions.

MCW will catalyse transformative impact, fostering partnerships that transcend borders." At the occasion, Ms. Sunita Ramnathkar, President, IMC said, “At IMC, we believe that the future of Mumbai lies in building sustainable, resilient, and well-connected urban infrastructure.

The Mumbai Metro is not just transforming the way we commute—it is shaping the city’s economic and environmental future. Our association with Mumbai Climate Week further strengthens IMC’s commitment to advancing climate action and fostering partnerships that drive meaningful change.

Together, these initiatives reflect our vision of a greener, more inclusive, and forward-looking Mumbai that leads by example for the rest of the country.” The session proceeded with highly engaging interactions and networking opportunities with the guest speakers, facilitated by IMC.
