In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab, in a joint operation with Barnala Police, have arrested two operatives of the Davinder Bambiha Gang and recovered six pistols from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Sunday.

Those arrested have been identified as Sandeep Singh, a resident of Hanumangarh Town in Rajasthan and Sekher, a resident of Kaithal in Haryana. The recovered pistols include one PX5 pistol, one .30 bore pistol, four .32 bore pistols along with 19 live cartridges. Police teams have also impounded their Maruti Swift car, bearing registration number PB01AX0945, which they were using to retrieve and deliver the weapon consignments.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that arrested accused persons were acting on the directions of their foreign-based handlers and planning to supply these weapons to foot soldiers of the Bambiha Gang to execute sensational crimes in the state. Further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages in this case to identify and dismantle the entire supply chain, he said.

Sharing operational details, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AGTF Punjab Promod Ban said that police teams had received specific human and technical inputs about the handlers of Bambiha Gang gang hatching conspiracy to commit sensational crime in the state. Acting swiftly, teams from AGTF Punjab under the supervision of AIG AGTF Sandeep Goel in a joint operation with Barnala Police, have successfully apprehended both the suspects from Barnala-Bathinda main road near Drain at village Dhaula, he said.

The teams were led by Inspector Vikram from AGTF and Inspector Baljit Singh from CIA Barnala. AIG Sandeep Goel said that both the arrested accused persons have a criminal history with a case pertaining to Arms Act registered against them. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Barnala Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam said that in this regard a case FIR No. 107 dated 11.10.2025 has been registered under section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Rureke Kalan in Barnala.

Further investigations are underway, he said, while adding that more arrests and recoveries are likely in coming days.
