Efforts are also underway to open indoor gyms and e-libraries in every village for women and youth.
Women have been granted 50 percent reservation in Panchayati Raj Institutions. Sh. Panwar described the passage of the 33 per cent women’s reservation bill in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha under Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi’s leadership as a historic step. Sh. Panwar said that the Padi-Likhi Panchayat tradition started by former Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal has helped curb corruption. The government has empowered panchayats to undertake works worth up to Rs. 21 lakh. Across the country, 4 crore houses have been built under the scheme.
He further said that nearly 2,000 farmers in Kaithal and Kurukshetra districts had been occupying 4,000 acres of panchayat land since 1951–52, and despite losing their legal battle in court, the Chief Minister showed great consideration by introducing a bill in the Assembly to grant these farmers legal possession of the land.
The Minister emphasised that empowering gram panchayats is crucial to achieving the goal of a developed India. In this direction, all 19,000 ponds in the state will be rejuvenated and beautified. Boundary walls, sheds, drinking water facilities, and paved roads will be provided at all cremation and burial grounds. He also announced that all phirnis will be paved and fitted with streetlights; so far, 341 such phirnis have been upgraded. He stated that these measures are vital for both safety and convenience.
