The Chairman of Chandigarh Administration’s Education Committee, Jitendra Pal Malhotra, today held an important meeting with all senior officials of the Education Department. The meeting was also attended by Higher Education officials and DPE Har Surender Singh Barar. The primary focus of the meeting was on improving the education system, ensuring good governance, and implementing better systems.
Addressing the officials, Malhotra said that education should not remain confined to books and classrooms, but should also be about shaping the overall personality of students and guiding them in defining their life goals. He emphasized that children must understand the difference between Aim and Goal.
He explained that while an Aim is the broader purpose of life, Goals are the smaller steps or milestones leading to that purpose. This clarity, he said, would help students move forward in a planned and structured way.
He further directed the officials to prioritize good governance in education—transparency, accountability, and outcome-based work. Malhotra stressed that only when transparency and governance become central to the system will students truly benefit from quality education.
Highlighting modernization, he added that the Education Department’s work should be paperless and maximum processes should be shifted to an online system. This, he said, will not only save time and bring transparency but also ensure efficiency and effectiveness in departmental functioning.
Malhotra also underlined that the Education Department must work to recognize and nurture the unique abilities and talents of children. Students should be given opportunities not just in academics but also in sports, arts, culture, and other fields to ensure their holistic development.
He said that the standard of education can only be raised when school and college administrations, teachers, and education department officials work with a shared sense of responsibility. He called for regular meetings to identify and address ground-level issues.
The officials present also shared their views on improving the system and welcomed the Chairman’s suggestions. They unanimously agreed that strong and result-oriented measures are required to strengthen the education system.
On this occasion, Malhotra assured that Chandigarh’s education system will soon be developed as a model for the entire country.
